The bark beetle Ips sexdentatus mainly attacks the species Pinus sylvestris, P. radiata, P. nigra, and P. pinaster. It has also been reported on Pseudotsuga menziesii and some species of Abies, Picea, Cedrus, and Larix.

It generally behaves as a secondary species, attacking newly dead trees, for example, recently felled ones, or severely damaged trees, such as those affected by fire. Occasionally, it can also behave as a primary or aggressive species, attacking apparently healthy trees that have begun to decline in some way.

The ECONEX IPS SEXDENTATUS 3C 60 DAYS pheromone dispensers attract both male and female beetles of the species. They are effective in the field for 60 days.

APPLICATION PERIOD:

There are three generations per year. In early May, the first nymphs and immature adults can already be observed, which, once sexually mature, begin to search for new oviposition sites. This marks the start of a second and third generation that develop throughout the summer. For effective control of Ips sexdentatus, it is recommended to monitor the pest using the ECONEX IPS SEXDENTATUS 3C 60 DAYS pheromone dispensers to detect the optimal moment to initiate insect control.

Traps should be installed and operational from mid-March to mid-November, in general.

APPLICATION:

In forested areas, install 1 trap per 20 ha, spaced at least 1000 m apart, for detection and monitoring. In areas smaller than 20 ha, install at least one trap per forest stand. For thorough monitoring, traps should be placed 100 to 500 meters apart, following forest tracks, firebreaks, or forest edges. Trap density may vary between 0.3 and 3 traps per hectare.

DISPENSER FUNCTIONING:

The ECONEX IPS SEXDENTATUS 3C 60 DAYS dispensers are blister-shaped and packaged in an aluminum pouch with a specification label. Once removed from the packaging, the dispensers do not require any activation or opening—simply place them correctly in the trap.

DISPENSER STORAGE:

Dispensers should be kept in their original packaging and stored in a refrigerator at 4 °C; or in a freezer at -18 °C, in which case they will remain effective for 3 months and 1 year respectively, always away from food and drinks.
