More info

ECONEX SOLID WOOD NEST BOX FOR FLYCATCHERS encourages nesting by insectivorous forest birds, mainly tit species such as the Spotted Flycatcher (Muscicapa striata), European pied flycatcher (Ficedula hypoleuca), the Collared Flycatcher (Ficedula albicollis), as well as redstarts, robins and others.

It is made entirely from 2 cm thick solid pine timber with PEFC certification, sourced from sustainably and socially responsible managed forests, and is FSC-certified, that is, FSC-controlled timber. It includes a stainless-steel hanger to ensure proper installation and prevent damage to trees.

It is weather-resistant, featuring a coat of single-component translucent exterior wood stain in a honey hazelnut colour.

The nest box has a front panel with an open top and a door at the bottom that swings forward, allowing access to monitor egg-laying and also facilitating cleaning of the nest box.

DIMENSIONS

Width: 18 cm

Height: 24 cm

Depth: 19.5 cm

Entrance to the nest box: 14 cm x 9 cm

Weight: 1.83 kg

PERIOD OF USE

The propitious time to install it is in late autumn.

INSTALLATION

The nest box should be placed between 2 and 5 m above the ground, on a tree or a wall, in a quiet spot and out of reach of cats and people.

The best orientation is south-southeast, avoiding direct sunlight and sheltered from prevailing winds. Damage must be avoided if installed in trees, so it is recommended to hang it from a branch using the metal hook provided. If placed on a wall, it is preferable to install it amongst climbing plants, securing it directly to the wall.

MAINTENANCE

Between October and November, when the nest is abandoned, it is advisable to empty its contents and clean the interior with boiling water to eliminate any parasites that might infect the chicks the following spring. DO NOT HANDLE WHILE THE CHICKS ARE BEING REARED.
