PERIOD OF USE

To achieve good control of the fruit fly, it is advisable to combine the two methods: detection and monitoring and mass trapping. In spring, 1 to 2 traps per hectare can be placed to detect the pest and observe its population level.

Through established thresholds of tolerance in each area, the control measures are later defined, in this case mass capture.

The threshold of tolerance for Ceratitis capitata is very low and varies according to the area. In general, between 0.5 and 3 captures per trap and per day.

NECESSARY MATERIAL

We can use an EOSTRAP® INVAGINATED or EOSTRAP® INVAGINATED WITH ORANGE LID trap.

MASS TRAPPING

The females of Ceratitis capitata are captured, but also some males of this species are captured in order to reduce the mating, so that the non-copulated females will have unviable eggs. In this way the population of the pest is greatly reduced.

To this end, the number of traps per surface must be increased, depending on the situation and the homogeneity of the plots. One trap controls a surface between 500 and 1,000 m2. This translates into a density of 10 to 20 traps per hectare, placed on the south face of the trees at a height of 1.5 to 2 meters.

At the edges of the plots will be necessary to place a barrier of traps, separated from each other from 10 to 15 meters.
